Carving Pumpkins

Growing up we ALWAYS carved pumpkins!  I never appreciated what effort and sheer patience that must have taken for my parents to take all 8 of us kids to the pumpkin patch, bring them home, spread out the newspaper, find scooping and carving utensils, carve the pumpkins, and get them all lit.
So I am a little embarassed to admit this was our first year carving pumpkins.  We have painted pumpkins and poked things into our pumpkin (i.e. those little pumpkin potato head things) but the Monday before Halloween I decided I should take the plunge and actually expose my kids to the pumpkin innards of seeds and pulp.
Kody had to work late so I was on my own but it actually wasn't too bad...we might have a new tradition on our list :)
