One Day Older...and Wiser Too!

I celebrated my 29th birthday this week. Not really a milestone birthday, but one that gets me closer to the BIG 3-0!
I have to say as I reflect on the past 29 years and what my life is like now I am very happy. Sure I've made my share of mistakes and life has had its ups and downs, but I'm married to a great guy with 2 beautiful little girls (and one on the way). I love teaching preschool and serving in the church.
I feel really blessed and I am thoroughly enjoying being 29...I'll let you know when I get to 30, that may be a whole different story!

That's So Rude!

So for those of you who do not have daughters, I will let you in on a little secret that tragedy happens OFTEN in lives of females. Case in Point....
So as I picked Kylie up from preschool I saw her talking to a bunch of other girls showing them her bubble-gum pink painted nails. Apparently that was to keep her inner turmoil under control until she got in the safety of our car where she began to sob that another girl in her class had told her that her picture was "UGLY!"
The tears began to flow as I pulled verses from my mental mothers book of wisdom telling her such things as "maybe the little girl was just having a bad day," and that "I'm sure I would love her picture" (I hadn't seen it yet), and oh yes "did it really matter what the little girl said as long as she liked her picture?"

This consoling lasted about thirty minutes or so into our eating of lunch. Then she found a video to entertain her and I thought that was that.

Well when Daddy came home apparently she told him her story to which he replied (in all his fatherly wisdom) "Tell her that her picture is ugly too!"
This was all before I came within ear shot but Daddy fessed up to his, shall we say, SAGE advice and Kylie shook her head saying "I wouldn't have told her that Mom."

So tonight I pulled the "picture in question" out of her preschool bag and it is a SELF-PORTRAIT. Now my little Kylie may get her numbers mixed up or her underwear on backwards sometimes but she is a pretty good little drawer. She does very good people (none of that arms sticking out of the head crap) and her flowers are very realistic for a 4 year old ( I will post proof later)...so where does this little girl get off telling her that her picture is UGLY AND when someone tells you your self-portrait is UGLY are they knocking the artist or the subject??!! And lastly will there be other times like this when deep down I wish I could teach my daughter to dish the meanness right back instead of taking the high road?

This of course is a rhetorical question to which I already know the answer...of course, there is always the impending ugliness of those junior high years!

It's Easter No Stopping...

We had a wonderful Easter!
Kylie and Tessa loved looking for eggs in the house. Kylie's favorite gift was her new bike and Tessa loved her new sandals (she has developed somewhat of a shoe fettish). And yes I got them matching Easter Dresses...I know it's corny but Kylie will be out of the toddler sizes next year so I had to do it one last time.

It was my mom's birthday on the April 7th so we decided to give her a Sunday without cooking for all of us. We had the Easter Extravaganza at our place and it was so much fun. Great food, conversation, a big Easter Egg Hunt and our Traditional game "It's Easter No Stopping."
When We were little one of our aunts came up with this Easter version of Red Rover in which you chant "It's Easter No Stopping send [Name]right hopping!" Then the participant must try to hop his/her way through the other team's linked hands. Some were better hoppers than others but we all had a great time!

Wickedly Cool

So I was such a good mother during spring break that I decided to reward myself with a little fun. Several months ago my wonderful sister-in-law Britney suggested that we get Wicked tickets and go out to dinner for my mom's birthday. She secured the tickets and it was lady's night!

It was so much fun! We had some Italian cuisine at Tucci's before heading to the Capitol Theater for the show! It was so good to have a night out by myself. Thanks to Britney and the wonderful ladies in my family. Also thanks to my husband for "babysitting?!"

Now the only question is...When can we do it again?

Spring Break and a little guilt

Do any of you other mothers feel guilty that you do other things beside constantly smothering your children with love, attention, and fun...and when I say "other things" I mean work, laundry, cook dinner, wash dishes, clean, etc.
Sometime I feel like I'm not spending enough "quality time" with my girls and so I vowed to make Spring Break a virtual Funopalooza. Here's a quick run down of the festivities:

Monday-playgroup with friends
Tuesday-2 1/2 hours at the park
Wednesday-Discovery Children's Musuem
Thursday-Sleepover at Grandma's
Friday-Movie "Bedtime Stories" at the Kaysville Theater
Saturday-Easter Egg dying

We had a bout of pink eye on Thursday but all in all a fun week. Thanks grandma for spelling me for a day!

Part of me is documenting this for that time when my kids get older and accuse me of "never letting them have any fun!"
