The day started out rainy and a little chilly, but soon the rain stopped and the temperatures weren't too cold.

Our first stop was at the Blacksmith Shop. This guy was great giving the kids a lesson on economics and even chemistry.
He made a flint and still and Mrs. Clark got a spark on her first try!
Our next stop was at the school house where we got a little taste of education in 1847. The kids loved it when one of their classmates had to stand with their nose against a wall and wear a Dunce cap. My favorite thing was learning about Deseret short hand. With all the different dialects and languages in the state Brigham Young came up with a short hand so that all words were spelled phonetically.
They also loved the handcart pull....well maybe LOVE is a strong word. With the girls steering and the boys being the brakes there was a lot of hollering and bossing around.
Our last activity at the park was a ride on the train. The minute we got off the train the wind picked up and we were caught in a torrential douwnpour as we all ran to the bus. I really wished I had taken a picture of us looking like drowned rats! It made us really appreciate that the pioneers traveled and slept out in weather like that.
